Wax Carving
Level: Beginners
Time: 6pm till 9pm
Over four days you will learn to carve with wax, learn about its history and how to do it at your home studio safely
You will learn:
* The history of wax in jewelry and why goldsmiths have trusted it for generations
* How to melt, soften, and prepare wax for carving
* Carving, filing, and refining techniques to bring a block to a finished form
* How to carve a ring to exact dimensions so it fits the way it should
* How to take an idea of your own and carve it into a second piece from a solid block
* Preparing your finished pieces so they are ready to be sent for casting
Included: all wax, tools, and bench time, one to one guidance throughout, a small group, and refreshments.
Casting note: When your carving is finished, we send your pieces to be cast in metal. You choose silver or brass. Casting is not included in the course price and is charged separately based on the metal and the weight of your piece. Once cast, you decide how to finish it. You can return to the studio and finish and polish it with us, or have it delivered to your home ready to wear.
You leave with: two pieces you carved with your own hands, a ring made to your size and a second design that is entirely your own, both ready for casting, and the skill to carve anything you can imagine from now on.
